What is it?

UKIM together with Akke Rahman, have embarked on a world exclusive challenge to summit all 14 peaks to raise money for humanitarian and charitable causes.

WHO's UKIM?

UK Islamic Mission

Is one of the oldest (1962) nation-wide humanitarian organizations in the UK. UKIM promotes and encourages mutual appreciation and friendly relations between Muslims and non-Muslims. Through its work, it aspires to see all citizens, irrespective of their colour, background, ethnicity, economic class and political affiliation, to live in dignity and peace with each other. This is because Islam aims to break the shackles that disunite human beings and restores dignity for all people. This was the mission of all the messengers of God and this is the mission that UKIM is delivering to the best of its ability and resources. Our philosophy is underpinned and driven by the Islamic faith and values. Islam teaches that building the foundations of community life on faith, spirituality and morality is essential to ensure people remain upright, just, peaceful and conscious of their social obligations.

WHO IS AKKE RAHMAN?

UKIM BRAND AMBASSADOR /
PROFESSIONAL MOUNTAINEER

Akke Rahman, was born in Jagannathpur, Bangladesh, to a Bengali Muslim family, made history in 2022 by becoming the first.
Rahman’s athleticism and competitive spirit, honed through his childhood achievements in triple jump and running, laid the foundation for his eventual success as a mountaineer. Despite starting climbing later in life, his natural talent and dedication allowed him to quickly become a skilled mountaineer. In 2020, he broke the UK record for climbing Mount Elbrus, reaching the summit in less than 24 hours. This achievement gave him the confidence that he was ready to tackle Mount Everest.

WHAT ARE THE
14 PEAKS?

the highest mountains in the world

The 14 peaks are the highest/tallest mountains in the world, which are over 8,000m / 26,247ft above sea level.

They are known as the ‘eight-thousander’s

These mountains are all located in the Himalayan and Karakoram mountain ranges – across Nepal, Tibet (China) and Pakistan 10 are located in the Himalaya and 4 of them in the neighbouring Karakorum.

These peaks are all located in the world’s most challenging terrains These peaks are the most strenuous and demanding mountaineering feats in the world, symbolizing the pinnacle of human achievement

All eight-thousanders are located in the Himalayan and Karakoram mountain ranges, and their summits are in the death zone.

THE DEATH
ZONE

The human body functions best at sea level where the atmospheric pressure is 1013.25 millibars.

In the death zone, the atmospheric pressure is less than 356 millibars

In the death zone and higher, Oxygen in your body is used up faster than it can be replenished. An extended stay in the zone without supplementary oxygen may lead to deterioration of body functions, loss of consciousness and even loss of life.
